St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in Bethesda, MD is looking to hire a soprano/alto to supplement its choir program.   The preference is to have a person who is comfortable singing both soprano and alto.  While we prefer that a single person fill these roles, we are open to the possibility of splitting a position among two people if necessary.

Pay is $80 per call, with one call per week on Sunday mornings, 9:45 am-noon (with occasional rehearsals after church nearer to Christmas and Easter). The choir sings for our more traditional, 10:45am Choral Eucharist service. There will be additional mandatory evening calls for Advent, Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, Easter Vigil, Easter, and the church’s annual Cabaret fundraiser in the spring. There will also be opportunities for singing solos, especially on Sundays when the choir is not singing an anthem in worship. Section leaders will provide guidance to volunteer choir members as we quickly learn new music on Sunday mornings, and will be especially vital in shepherding local high school students that participate in our Choral Scholars program.

We sing a wide variety of repertoire, including chanted psalms and Episcopal/Anglican church anthems, sacred “classical” music, gospel music and spirituals, and occasional choral arrangements of contemporary Christian music.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a strong background in choral music, with particularly good sightreading skills and the ability to learn music at home. We are especially interested in applicants who are punctual, reliable, and flexible.

If you have any questions, or would like to schedule an interview/audition (which will consist of some vocal warm ups, a short sight singing exercise, and the singing of a
prepared piece), please contact (via e-mail):
