Northwood Presbyterian Church of Silver Spring, MD seeks a Director of Music to start September 26, 2019. We are a small, intercultural congregation of 125 members seeking a musician/choral conductor familiar and comfortable with selecting, rehearsing, and performing diverse genres of music from classical to contemporary, with the willingness to learn and teach music indigenous to other cultures.

Responsibilities include auditioning and hiring section leaders for the chancel choir and additional musicians for special services. The position, supervised by a female pastor, also includes the accompaniment of worship hymns and responses along with a prelude, an offertory, and a postlude. The chancel choir rehearses at 9:15 A.M. prior to the 10:00 A.M. Sunday worship service (40 weeks) and on Thursday nights from 7:30 P.M. to 9:00 PM. The children’s choir rehearses from 11:30 A.M. to 12:15 A.M. following Sunday worship. Special services include Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and Christmas Eve. The sanctuary instruments are a Rodgers 3-Manual Electronic organ and a Yamaha grand piano. Memorial and wedding services and special services beyond the three mentioned above are paid per diem. The salary for the 15-hour per week position is $20,500 per year, with $1,000 per year continuing education allowance, and vacation days of four Sundays and three Thursday choir rehearsals per year (not during, Advent, Christmas, or Lent).
