Grant Us Peace – featuring Dona Nobis Pacem by Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Dona Nobis Pacem, a cantata written by Ralph Vaughan Williams in 1936, is a plea for peace calling to memory World War I amid growing fears of the coming threat of World War II. The texts are taken from the Latin Mass, poems by Walt Whitman, a political speech, and Biblical quotations.

This new arrangement for men’s chorus by Ken Harned is a world premiere. Dr. Harned analyzed the techniques that Vaughan Williams used to arrange his Five Mystical Songs for men’s chorus and applied them to the Dona Nobis Pacem. The Vaughan Williams estate has given their imprimatur to this new arrangement.

The Camerata brings this beautiful and moving work to downtown DC with soloists Rosa Lamoreaux, soprano and Christopher Edwards, baritone, members of the celebrated Washington Symphonic Brass, The Virginia Glee Club of the University of Virginia, and Chris Betts, organist.
