The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own" presents Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture

08.19.2017 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” will present its annual family-friendly 1812 Overture Concert on historic Fort Myer’s Summerall Field in Arlington, Va., Saturday, Aug. 19 at 8:00 p.m. In the event of rain, the concert will move indoors to Conmy Hall, adjacent to Summerall Field.

This event is FREE; no tickets are required. Bleacher seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis and there will be plenty of grass seating for blankets and low-chairs. Food is permitted; however, no coolers, alcohol, or glass containers. In the event the concert is moved indoors, stadium seating is available.

Vehicles and pedestrians may enter via Hatfield Gate (off Washington Boulevard and 2nd Street). The Henry Gate (located at the intersection Route 50 and Pershing Drive) will be open to pedestrians and cyclists only from 6-10:30 p.m. A valid photo ID is required for patrons 18+.

A late-summer tradition in Washington for more than 30 years, this concert continues to be a FREE, family-friendly performance featuring The U.S. Army Concert Band, Army Chorus, Army Voices, and Herald Trumpets. The program features music from John Philip Sousa, Randol Alan Bass’s Casey at the Bat, a medley of music from Disney's Beauty and the Beast, and a special final performance by MSG Alvy Powell, retiring this year after over 25 years of distinguished service to our country as a member of The U.S. Army Chorus. The powerful concert concludes with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, featuring the fire power of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) Presidential Salute Battery, and is the highlight of Washington’s outdoor music season.

“We're very pleased to make this concert more accessible to our Arlington neighbors this year. The energy the crowd brings to a concert makes for a very powerful experience for everyone!” remarked Col. Andrew Esch, the 11th leader and commander of The U.S. Army Band. “Once again, we’re always proud to have our Old Guard partners, the Soldiers of the Presidential Salute Battery, join us on the concert’s title piece. The live cannons make the performance unlike any other!”

The concert is FREE and tickets are not required. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will take place on at the same time inside Conmy Hall, adjacent to Summerall Field. Check the status of weather calls on our Facebook page for the most current information.
