WCUCC is in search of a kind and skilled Bass / Baritone staff section leader for the remainder of our upcoming season which begins in January.  Stipends range from $75-$125 per call depending on the event.
The regular commitment includes:
Weekly Thursday evening rehearsals: 7:30 – 9:30pm
Weekly Sunday Service at 10:00am, with 9:00am rehearsal
Several larger performances throughout the year, for which ringers are always hired (Details)
The music program at Westmoreland is expansive, diverse, and of high quality, and is part of an open and affirming congregation.
The core of the program is made up of two choirs: one that prepares music for Sunday Services, and an add-on community chorus which prepares three public concerts per year to raise money for charity. The latter group performs large-scale works (recently: Buxtehude Membra Jesu Nostri, Vaughan Williams Dona Nobis Pacem, Cerrone The Branch Will Not Break, Shaw To The Hands) collaborates with local music ensembles (recently: Eya, Washington Conservatory Orchestra, and Great Noise Ensemble) and fantastic guest soloists (recently: Lena Seikaly, Laura Choi Stuart, George Singleton, Richard Giarusso, Aani Bourassa, and poet Slangston Hughes).
If you enjoy an expansive idea of what can be an effective part of Sacred Music (Standards, Spirituals, Jazz, Music Theatre, Avant-garde, etc) the opportunity to collaborate on bigger projects, and work with a motivated mix of amateur and professional musicians, please apply!
As a soloist, please be able to demonstrate stylistic versatility and professional demeanor.  As a section leader, it can be expected that you:
Are an advocate for your section before you are a performer in your own sense
Have the requisite sight-reading skills to help lead your section
Take sufficient notes to be able to answer questions from your section regarding breathing, pronunciation, articulation, etc..
Communicate with the Music Director to ensure substitutes are found when you are absent
Can occasionally lead a sectional rehearsal .
