St. Michael's Adult Choir and Schola are a cappella choral groups devoted to traditional choral music, including Renaissance polyphony and other Latin motets, Gregorian chant, and chorale-style hymns.
Compensation & Schedule
- Annual earnings: approx. $15,600
- Rate: $75 per call (calls are approx. 1½ hrs.)
- Usually 4 calls per week (approx. $300/week)
- Rehearsals: Tuesday (8:00–9:30 p.m.) and Thursday (7:30–9:00 p.m.)
- 2 Sunday Masses (10:00–11:30 a.m. and 12:00–1:30 p.m.)
- Summer schedule: usually Thursday and Sunday calls only (approx. $225/week)
- Additional calls typically include: Jan. 1, Aug. 15, Nov. 1, Dec. 8, Christmas Eve (3 calls), Holy Thursday, Good Friday afternoon (3 calls), and Easter Vigil (3 calls)
Description
An ideal section leader works well with both professional and volunteer singers in a supportive, caring atmosphere and enjoys singing in a small a cappella ensemble. Ideally, the candidate:
- Is familiar with Latin pronunciation
- Can sing Gregorian chant from chant notation and is familiar with the style
- Is confident singing Renaissance polyphony with two or three singers on a part
- Is familiar with the Catholic Mass and able to help lead the congregation in traditional hymns, Latin Mass parts, and the Responsorial Psalm
- Or is willing to learn these skills
