National City Christian Church is seeking a classically trained bass-baritone to serve as a paid Section Leader with the Chancel Choir beginning in Fall 2026.
The ideal candidate will be a strong ensemble singer and confident musician who can provide vocal and musical leadership within the bass section, while also being comfortable singing occasional solos and small ensemble repertoire. Experience singing African American spirituals and Gospel music is preferred, though singers with strong musicianship and the flexibility and willingness to work across a variety of musical styles are encouraged to apply.
Regular Sunday Schedule:
Sundays generally begin with a 9:45 a.m. rehearsal, followed by the 11:00 a.m. worship service, which is approximately 75 minutes.
The Chancel Choir sings during the program year and is off during the summer. There are several additional rehearsals and services throughout the season, including a fall kickoff rehearsal, an additional rehearsal near Advent, Christmas Eve, and additional rehearsals surrounding the spring and Easter seasons. Christmas Eve includes the full choir.
On some Sundays and special services when the full choir is not scheduled, including during the summer, one or two Section Leaders may be scheduled to provide music.
Repertoire is varied and includes classical choral literature, spirituals, Gospel music, hymns, and contemporary sacred music within an inclusive and welcoming music ministry.
Compensation is $125–$175 per call, commensurate with experience.
