The Music Director leads the music ministry at Chevy Chase UMC and supports the vision of Chevy Chase UMC through contributions to the worship experience. The Music Director is accountable to the Pastor and the Staff parish Relations Team of the Leadership Board. The Pastor provides day-to-day direction and supervision.The position is 30 hours a week. There is flexibility in the work schedule and a possibility of working remotely for a portion of each week. Start date in August, with exact date negotiable.

Responsibilities:
• Model an authentic and growing faith in Jesus Christ
• Music Program Development:
• Develop and implement, in consultation with the Pastor, music and worship ministries
• Work with volunteers to plan worship, especially for the contemporary service.
• Recruit, equip, motivate, supervise, and support music and worship arts ministry participants
• Develop opportunities for music ministries to support the congregation’s mission, outreach, and pastoral care ministries
• Mentor and develop worship leadership and gifts in others
• Provide leadership and direction for the Sanctuary Choir and Praise Band 
• Work with the Pastor, Director of Youth and Children’s Ministry, and ministry leaders to create worship and leadership opportunities for youth, children, and their families
• Lead music for Vacation Bible School
• Participate in the congregation’s life and ministry
• Effectively communicate with the Pastor, staff, ministry participants, and congregation on a regular basis
• Oversee copyright compliance and music resource maintenance
• Oversee music ministry funds and budget
• Help create worship materials (bulletins, worship slides, etc.)
• Work with and supervise the organist
• Attend staff meetings

Qualifications:
• Passion for Christ centered worship
• Bachelor's degree in music (Masters preferred)
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in church related setting preferred
• Ability to identify and develop gifts in others
• Experience leading traditional and contemporary worship, including the ability to lead worship that transcends traditional, contemporary, and blended worship styles
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others
• Knowledge of and ability to use social media
• Pass a background check
• Complete annual Chevy Chase UMC “Safe Sanctuaries” questionnaire

Musical Competencies:
• Experience in a wide range of music styles for Christian worship, including traditional, contemporary, and blended
• Experience with arranging and sequencing music
• Experience with technical aspects of worship services a plus (examples: stage management, sound boards, lighting, video and slide projection, video editing, etc.)
• Knowledge of music in The United Methodist Church tradition preferred

Compensation
• $33,000 -43,000 depending on qualifications and experience
