Position Description Associate Director of Music 

July 2024 

To assist in cultivating and leading the worship music ministry for Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church, in consultation with the Director of Music and Pastoral Staff. 


Select, plan, and rehearse music weekly for a children’s choir K-5 with the choir participating in one to two services every month through the end of May. Flexibility to establish a second choir when the demographics prove robust which may result in re-defining this area of the position. 

  • Rehearse singers to produce the Sunday School Christmas Pageant in December in cooperation with Sunday School Classes and teachers. Rehearsals are to be on Sunday during normal choir times. The dress rehearsal is on Saturday. 
  • Offer Sunday School music in cooperation with the Sunday School schedule and teachers. 

Assist the Director of Music in planning the Annual Christmas Concert and prepare the participating Choir(s) for the event. Select, direct, and produce an appropriate spring musical for choristers, 20-30mins in length, which is presented during worship. 

Administrative responsibilities: 

Create PowerPoint or Keynote slides for one online worship service per week. 

Maintain the schedule of Zoom operators. Train and provide technical assistance as able. 

Maintain communication with choristers and their families. 

Communicate faithfully with the Director of Music and the Pastoral Staff. 

Other musical requirements: 

  • Conduct up to two Chancel Choir rehearsals in the year as a substitute for the Director of Music. 
  • Conduct the service as needed 

Sing in the 10 a.m. Chancel Choir 


Committed to the church's vision, leadership, and people. Dependable, responsible, self-motivated, and creative. Bachelor's degree in Music. Minimum three years experience in a church-related setting. 

Core Competencies: 

  • Intermediate keyboard skills. 
  • Knowledge of vocal development, training, and classroom management for elementary grades. 
  • Experience in presenting music productions. 

16 hours/week (39 weeks - September 1 June 1) 18,720.00
